All-in-one computers look sleek. One beautiful screen, no separate tower, cables hidden behind the display. They sit neatly on a desk and feel premium. But that aesthetic appeal comes at a steep price — both when you buy them and, more painfully, when something goes wrong.
What Makes Them Sound Good
They save space. No separate CPU unit, no tangle of wires. The monitor and computer are one elegant machine. For small offices or home desks in County Durham, this appeals instantly.
They look professional. All-in-ones present a polished image. They photograph well. That matters to some businesses.
But these advantages evaporate the moment something fails or needs upgrading.
The Real Problem: You Can't Upgrade
Traditional desktop computers are modular. RAM fails? Pop the side panel, swap it out, £30–£60 and you're done. Hard drive dies? Replace it. Graphics card next? Done.
With an all-in-one, everything is welded together behind the display. Want to add more RAM? The panel doesn't exist. Want a faster hard drive? It's not accessible. Graphics card? Good luck.

If you absolutely must have an all-in-one (and sometimes aesthetics matter), treat it like a disposable machine. Budget for replacement every 3–4 years, not upgrades.
